About Us

Who are the Badmonkeybrainers? We're a group of artists, writers, cartoonists, musicians, and all-around creative, free thinkers living and working in the Northern Virginia area. We currently consist of a core group of five creators, with an additional and fluctuating group of crazy monkeys. You can most easily find us here at Badmonkeybrain by creating an account on our Message Board and leaving us a message! We generally meet a couple of times a week in the Northern Virginia area--check the board for details. We are:

Rand Arrington:
Rand is a classically trained artist, who has been able to transcend his training (in other words, he loves him some comic books). He debuted professionally as designer/penciller/inker/letterer with a 7-page story for the European market called "Pursuit of the Dark Rider". He is currently developing an all-ages property called "Chipmonks" that's gonna blow your socks off! Rand's work can be found at his Comicspace page and his Deviantart gallery.

Jerry Carr:
Jerry is one crazy monkey! He dipped his toe into the comic book self-publishing market in the late 90s. You'll never find the books, as he has spent the last 8 years hunting down every copy and destroying them in a firepit in the backyard. In 2004, writer Allan Gross joined him on the popular all-ages comic book"Cryptozoo Crew". Jerry did the design, pencilling, inking, toning, coloring, lettering, and post-production on the book, but has been known to throw himself on the charity of his fellow Badmonkeybrainers when the deadline is looming (or blown). Jerry is currently developing "Brew Lagoon" for a more grown-up audience. You can find him at his Comicspace page, his Deviantart gallery, his Sketchblog, Cryptozoocrewonline.com, Brewlagoon.com, and at Insight Studios Group.

Khalid Iszard:
Iszy is a creative force of nature. A true contemporary renaissance man, he pencils, inks, paints, sculpts, models/animates in 3D, writes, and even whittles. In 2005, Iszy began development on the sci-fi epic "Mindfield" with writer Mark Hanes. Iszy is currently developing his love-letter to giant robots called "BARG!" (Big Ass Robot Gods). Think "Jack Kirby-meets-Transformers-meets-What the Bleep do we Know", and you might be close to describing this masterpiece! Iszy's work can be found at his website Iszard.com, his Comicspace page, his Deviantart gallery, and at Bigrobotgods.com.

Mark Mandolia:
Mark is a scary talent. Why scary? Because he can draw pretty much ANYTHING in his assortment of Moleskine sketchbooks. Still not impressed? You will be when you see that he does it with a ball-point pen! Mark has been quite involved with the Washington DC based Katsucon (Anime/Manga fan convention) for many years--providing images for T-shirts, posters, and various promotional materials. Mark is currently developing a top-secret project in his basement (we're all sure it's a giant Frankenstein monster). To slake your thirst for his work, you can enjoy his Sequential Sketches--stream of consciousness cartoons mainlined from his brainpan directly to the comic page! You can find more on Mark at his Comicspace page.

Brian Maze:
Do not question this man on his knowledge of movies or TV. He has a near photographic memory of pop-culture entertainment. He often uses this encyclopedic knowledge for Good--creating properties almost overnight, fleshed-out with the trappings of nostalgia. He's currently working on two projects--a one-shot comic called "Gigawhut?" and an ongoing series, based on the truth behind "Weekly World News". The name of the strip? "Freak Central", of course. Brian can be found running naked through the streets with nothing on but a beer hat (dang, we promised not to mention that). But seriously folks. Brian's work can be found on his Comicspace page and at Monkeygoatboy.com.
