HOW TO DRAW AN ELEPHANT For Beginners
Step 1 These shapes will be the building blocks for your drawing. They're called "Primitives" due to their simplicity. Once you know how to use primitives to build your drawings, you'll find that you can draw absolutely ANYTHING! Practice drawing some of these simple shapes. Don't worry about making them perfect--your drawing will have much more energy if you loosen up and have fun with it!
|
Step 2 First, draw a circle for the head (start close to the top of the paper to leave room for the rest of the body). Draw a larger circle behind and to the right of the head. This will be the body. The legs are 4 triangles. The two legs that are in front are complete triangles. The two legs in back will be partial triangles (because you cannot see the whole leg).

Step 3 Draw the ears as ovals--they should be almost as tall as the head. Of course, you can make them as large as you want or as small as you want. I just provide you with guidelines. Draw the trunk as a noodle--it should start about halfway across the head.
|
Step 4 Make a guideline halfway down the head. This will help you draw the elephant's eyes. The eyes are two circles. Place dots in the eyes for eyeballs. If you make the eyes really large, your elephant probably sees the biggest peanut in the world! Draw the elephant's tusks. They are two triangles pointing slightly away from the trunk. Give the elephant a little curly-cue tail, with a little bit of fringe at the end.

Step 5 Darken the outside lines. You can use a pencil, or maybe a pen, marker, or crayon. The ear that is in front should overlap the elephant's head a little bit. The elephant's trunk is his nose, so don't forget to make a small oval at the end with small dots for nostrils. Give him a small tuft of hair on his forhead. Just make small teardrop shapes for the hairs. |
Step 6 Add some touch-up details. Use an upside-down "U" for the upper rim of each ear. The elephant has baggy skin, so add some wrinkles to his trunk and his body. The feet have nobb toenails on them that you can make as upside-down "U"s. Give the elphant cute twirly kneecaps |

Step 7 Now you erase all of your guiding lines. Congratulations, you now own an elephant! Drawing, that is.
|
Step 8 You can add color (or boxer shorts, if you like) with crayons, markers, colored pencils, or grape jam (don't tell anyone I suggested that).
